Head lice (1) are parasitic insects that infest the hair on people's heads and necks, and occasionally on their eyebrows and eyelashes. They feed on human blood and typically live near the scalp. Head lice do not transmit diseases. They go through a three-stage life cycle.

Nit
​Small eggs are laid at the root of the hair, which are frequently mistaken for dandruff.​

Nymph
Nits develop into baby insects and turn reddish brown after feeding on human blood.

Adult
Adults rely on blood to live; females can lay upto 100 egss.

Get them!(2)

  1. Head lice can be spread by coming into contact with the head or hair of someone who is infested.
  2. They can also be transmitted through items like clothing or hair brushes.

Treatment(2)

  1. Clean the clothes and bedding of the person with an infestation.
  2. Use over-the-counter oil and shampoo along with prescribed medications.
  3. Remove the pests manually using a nit comb.
