World Blood Donor Day.^^

Blood is the most significant gift of life that a person can give to others.

Donated Blood is always life-saving for people who have lost a significant amount of blood due to severe injuries, surgical procedures, medical conditions etc.##

The timely availability of sufficient quantities of blood in blood banks has become a prime concern for society. 

Can I give Blood?$$

Well! You too can become a super-hero through blood donation if you meet the following criteria:

1. Healthy volunteers in the age group between 18-65 years of age, with weight > 45 kg & Hemoglobin of at least 12.5gr%, can donate blood.

2. Healthy males can donate blood in three months and women once in four months.

3. A donor shall not make any donation within 12 months after a bone marrow harvest and within six months after a peripheral stem cell harvest.

4. Pregnant women or recently delivered mothers should donate only after 12 months of delivery.

5. People with HIV/AIDS, Syphilis and Hepatitis, and acute systemic infection should not give blood.​

​​Blood Donation: Things to remember **

Stop taking blood thinning medications 2 - 3 days prior to blood donation

Stay hydrated & drink a lot of water.

Bandage to be applied on the area of the prick for the next several hours

No Alcohol is to be consumed before the donation day

Avoid fatty food like fries, burgers etc

Keep sitting for a few minutes after donating blood

Make sure your Hb is within the normal range

Take all prescribed prescriptions if you have any

Eat refreshments post blood donation

Eat an Iron rich diet like beans, spinach, fish, red meat

Wear loose fitting clothes to roll up the sleeves easily

Avoid physical & strenuous exercises for the rest of the day and in case of dizziness, lie down to feel better
