Travel Insurance for Ecuador

Ecuador is a small South American country, nestled between Peru and Colombia. The capital of Ecuador – Quito, has been designated as a world heritage site by UNESCO. Old colonial buildings, 17th-century monasteries and heritage mansions – all these are found in Quito. If you can take some time out of your sightseeing in Quito, try the cable car that goes up the Pichincha volcano. The view from the top is simply breathtaking.

If you want to visit the Andes, Ecuador is a good place to begin. Most people fly into Quito (there's a newly built international airport in the city now) and then take a domestic flight to other cities like Cuenca. Cuenca is a major tourist magnet, made famous as a pensioner's paradise. If you want to try your hand at adventure sports, visit the city of Banos. Banos is famous for its natural sights (valleys, waterfalls).

Shopaholics will just love the indigenous cloth market in the city of Otavalo. Otavalo is just about two hours from Quito and you can easily get transportation going there (state buses, rental cars). The Otavalo market is the largest cloth market in South America, though other traders also hawk their wares there. Don't forget to visit Cuicocha lake near Otavalo. The lake has some wonderful sights. If you want to give thermal spring therapy a go, visit Termas de Papallacta.

Many tourists to Ecuador, also visit the Galapagos islands, located about 1369 km off the coast of Ecuador. The islands are known for their scenic beauty and for being home to a number of unique animals not seen elsewhere, like giant tortoises, sea-going iguanas, and birds called blue-footed boobies. The Amazon forests are also seen in Ecuador. Many Ecuadorian cities are actually located in the Amazon. You can fly out to the cities and take a canoe, further on to your lodge inside the forest.
