Steps To Fix Your Car’s Punctured Tyre

Flat tyres are not an uncommon sight. It is one of the most common problems that you will face while driving a car. A little nail, a small piece of glass, or any sharp object can damage the tyre of your vehicle. Punctured tyres can create a lot of hassle for you. No matter, if your car’s tyre is a normal or a tubeless one, it is not possible to drive through the lanes in such condition as it can damage the vehicle rims and also potentially cause accidents. It may seem that taking the car to the garage is the best solution here. But, don’t you think fixing the tyre by yourself can save your time and hassle of finding a repair shop nearby. It can also help you to come out of uncalled circumstances if you are stuck at a highway of a remote lane. Always carry a kit that can help you fix your car tyre puncture and have a car insurance policy in place.

Here’s the step-by-step process of fixing the puncture of your car’s tyre-

1. Find the Leak
The first step is finding the leak. The object that has punctured the tyre is not easily found every time. It could be anything- a nail or a sharp object.  Take a close look at the tyre and see if there’s any hole or cut. If taking a visible inspection doesn’t help, inflate the tyre to the appropriate pressure level and see if there is a hissing sound. However, if you are not able to detect the puncture by any means, mix some dish soap with water and spray or brush the mixture on the tyre. You will see bubbles coming out from the leaking area. Mark the spot with tape.

2. Loosen the Lug Nuts and Jack up the Car
The second step involves losing the lug nuts to remove the tyre. You can do it with an impact wrench or a lug wrench. Do this step before jacking up the car else it can spin dangerously at the time of removing the nuts.
It’s the time to jack up the car to remove the wheels. You can do it by keeping your car on a concrete or plain surface to prevent your car from rolling! Use jack stands to keep the car stabilized. Now, position your car jack to the recommended jacking points of your car, and use it to lift the side you’re working on.

3. Take off the Lug Nuts and Clean the Hole
Remove the lug nuts entirely so that you take off the wheel from the wheelbase. Now, it’s the time to clean the leaking area by inserting the rasp tool in and out of the puncture/hole a few times.

4. Insert the Plug
A plug has to be threaded at the middle of the insertion tool to push it into the hole. For a better seal and an easy insertion, lubricate the plug with an adhesive such as glue or rubber cement. Now, keep the plug intact and don’t move it for at least one minute so that the adhesive sets and dries. Cut out the part of the plug sticking out from the tyre surface.

5. Inflate the Tire
In the last step, you have to fill the tyre with suggested air pressure in order to ensure smooth movement of your car. Now, re-install the wheel, remove the floor jack, attach the lugs and tighten them to the proper torque.

Now that you have learned the entire process of fixing the puncture of your car’s tyre, you can carry out the whole process without any assistance. Moreover, you should consider that repairing your tyre by yourself is not a permanent solution. You should take the car to the repair shop for a professional solution.
