Chennai is the capital city of the state of Tamil Nadu and a tourist magnet, for domestic and international tourists, alike. The city is acclaimed for its health tourism and attracts nearly 45% of the health tourists who visit India. Chennai is also known for its cultural attractions, like Kapaleeshwarar temple, Mahabalipuram (UNESCO World Heritage Site), San Thome Basilica, Ripon building and many more. The city is considered a major center for the performing arts (music, dance, and art).
Chennai has a strong transport infrastructure. Chennai was actually the first city to get a mass rapid transport system in 1995. Anna Salai is the most famous road in Chennai and it connects Central and South Chennai. The city is connected to other cities in Tamil Nadu by the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation.
State Highway 1 connects Chennai to Thiruvallur district. State Highway 48 connects Chennai to Kancheepuram. National Highway 16 which hugs the eastern coast and passes through Chennai, connects West Bengal, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. National Highway 48 connects Chennai to Bengaluru and from there to Mumbai, Vadodara, Jaipur and Delhi.
