Personal Accident Insurance is a safety shield that can secure your family by compensating for the financial loss due to your accidental death or disability.

We all have heard the saying—it's better to be safe than sorry! An accident can turn your life upside down in less than a minute.

With our Reliance General Personal Accident Insurance Policy, you can ensure all-round protection, covering not only accidental death and disability but also hospitalisation expenses, burns, fractures, trauma counselling and more.

Here is what you need to know about our insurance for personal accidents.

What Is Personal Accident Insurance?

Personal accident insurance, also referred to as PA cover, is a type of policy that offers financial support to you or your family in the event that bodily injuries due to accidents result in total/partial disability or death.

Insurance for personal accidents ensures financial stability during unforeseen accidents by providing a lump sum benefit in the event of accidental death, permanent total or partial disablement, repatriation of mortal remains and funeral expenses.

With our accidental insurance policy, Reliance Personal Accident 360Shield, you can also benefit from a family shield that includes parental care, educational grants and loan protection. In addition, a personal shield covers personal belongings and payment card protection.

Furthermore, you have health and well-being coverage for added support and access to assistance services for educational counselling, financial and legal guidance, and more.

Types of Personal Accident Insurance Policies

We offer Reliance Personal Accident 360Shield in two types: Individual and Family (Non-Floater Basis).

Individual Personal Accident Insurance

The base cover offers a lump sum for accidental death, permanent total or partial disablement and repatriation of mortal remains and funeral expenses. In addition, it includes the following mandatory covers:

  • Health and Well-Being Covers for convalescence, rehabilitation, trauma counselling, and more.
  • Assistance Services for educational counselling, financial guidance, legal assistance, and more.

Family Personal Accident Insurance

The personal accident policy also includes a mandatory cover, the Family Shield, in addition to the covers mentioned above.

The Family Shield covers multi-member death or disability, parental care for mother and father, educational grants for dependent children, loan protection and EMI protection against home loans, vehicle loans, education loans, and more.

Reliance General Insurance offers the Reliance Personal Accident 360Shield Plan with four different plans, namely:

Factors Affecting Personal Accident Policy Premiums

Age

Age is a significant factor affecting the PA cover premiums, with older individuals typically paying higher rates due to increased risk.

Occupation

The nature of your occupation, particularly if it involves engaging in hazardous activities, can affect your premium rate, as higher-risk jobs often lead to increased costs.

Health Status

Your health condition, especially with a history of health issues and a series of medications, can increase your accidental insurance policy premium.

Coverage Required

A higher coverage amount can lead to increased premium costs, as it reflects the higher risks that must be accounted for and the need for broader protection.

Add-Ons Chosen

Opting for additional optional covers can raise the premium, depending on the type and extent of coverage selected.

Tips to Save on Personal Accident Insurance Costs

Compare Multiple Options

Before purchasing a personal accident insurance policy, it is important that you take the time to compare multiple quotes to identify the best coverage and the most affordable premium.

Maintain a Healthy Lifestyle

Resorting to a healthy lifestyle with a balanced diet and a regular exercise routine can help reduce your risk profile and further reduce the applicable personal accident insurance price.

Opt only for the Required Amount of Coverage

Assess different factors, such as your lifestyle, work environment and travel plans, to find the most optimal coverage required for your personal accident policy.

Choose Optional Add-Ons Wisely

Understand the different optional add-ons available and choose only the most essential ones to avoid unnecessary premium increases while still ensuring the coverage you need.

Choose a Higher Deductible

If your policy includes a deductible, choosing a higher proportion can reduce your personal accident insurance premium rate. However, ensure you strike the right balance with your ability to manage the deductible at the time of a claim while still enjoying premium savings.

How Much Personal Accidental Insurance Coverage is Enough?

Assess your Needs

Analyse your financial condition and needs based on factors such as the nature of your occupation, location, and health status to determine the right amount of coverage that can be a suitable replacement for the loss of income.

Consider your Debt Obligations

Consider your financial liabilities, such as loans and other debts, to ensure that your personal accident insurance covers these outstanding amounts in case of an accident and secure your family's financial stability.

Consider your Financial Obligations

To decide on suitable PAI coverage, consider your age, and the number of dependents you have, and their future financial requirements to decide on the suitable coverage for your.

Inflation

While accounting for your requirements, also consider the rate of inflation that can significantly affect your financial needs for the future.

Seek Expert Help

When you are not confident about finding the right sum insured, you can seek our expert help in choosing the appropriate coverage.

Tax Benefits of Personal Accident Policy

Understanding the tax benefits of personal accident cover can be slightly complex. When bundled with a life insurance policy, it is important to identify the portion of the premium applicable for tax deductions and the payouts applicable for the exemption benefit.

However, you can claim the cost for an accidental insurance policy if it provides protection against loss of income. For example, suppose you are a small businessman or a trader and purchased a personal accident cover to secure your earning capacity. In that case, it may qualify for tax benefits, subject to the prevailing tax laws.
