A Guide to Comparing and Choosing the Perfect Health Insurance

Health insurance is more important now than ever, with the coronavirus pandemic still raging across the globe. However, you need coverage in case of other illnesses too. So, before deciding to go with one, be aware of the 3 main types of health insurance:

COVID-specific health insurance

  • The premium for coronavirus insurance is cheaper than comprehensive health insurance. The sum insured is also high enough to prevent any financial difficulty in case of an unfortunate eventuality. However, a COVID-specific plan will not cover you in case of any other medical emergency or critical illness, unlike a comprehensive plan
  • COVID-specific plans can come with 100% sum insured if you are diagnosed with COVID-19 and require 72 hours of constant hospitalization. They have a waiting period of 15 days. In the case of a comprehensive policy, the sum insured will depend on factors like age, lifestyle and health problems and the waiting period is for 30 days
  • Also, if you have a COVID specific as well as a comprehensive policy and you make a claim after being diagnosed with COVID, you will still be able to retain the NCB discount from your comprehensive policy
  • Comprehensive health insurance

  • Apart from providing financial security in case of coronavirus infection, a comprehensive health insurance plan will cover various other diseases. It will cover the cost of hospitalization, pre & post hospitalization, daycare procedures (like chemotherapy and dialysis), critical illnesses (like cancer, heart attack, stroke etc.), medical tests, medicines and even regular health check-ups. Additionally, get:

  • Cashless treatment at one of the 8600 + network hospitals
  • Policy delivery within 10 seconds
  • Tax benefit under section 80D
  • EMI payment facility
  • Instant renewal without paperwork
  • Although a comprehensive policy is overall more expensive than a COVID-specific plan, it is worth it, since it provides broader coverage

    Health insurance plans

  • Choose from different types of plans customised according to your requirements and budget. There are specific plans to take care of treatment for Corona, Critical Illnesses, AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha, Homeopathy), etc.

Conclusion

All in all, choosing the right health insurance policy will depend on your specific needs and your budget as well. However, having at least one policy is essential to protect yourself against rising medical costs in case of an emergency. Although quite a few vaccines have been approved for emergency use in many countries, it will take time for everyone to have access to the vaccines. In the time of this pandemic, letting your guard down for even a minute is out of the question. You must take all the precautions possible and invest in a good health insurance plan to stay protected always.
