Pollution is one of the biggest problems in India via ignition from the vehicles. This ignition is the major contributor to toxifying the air. To avoid such things, the government of India has taken multiple steps. One of the steps is to promote green mobility and increase the use of electric cars. However, there are some challenges that the Indian government is facing with electric vehicles. Before getting into more details, let's first look at what electric vehicles are.

What is an Electric car/ vehicle?

An electric car is a car that is driven by one or more electric motors that use energy stored in rechargeable batteries, instead of diesel or burning petrol that exhausts harmful fumes. At present, there are three types of electric cars:

  • Solar-powered electric cars and vehicles
  • Hybrid electric cars which are powered by the combination of batteries and internal combustion
  • Electric cars with battery electric vehicle (BEV) or on-board battery packs

Electric cars with BEV or battery electric vehicles are preferred more when it comes to environmental conservation. However, hybrid electric cars are also preferred. Automobile manufacturers in India that have announced electric four-wheelers are Mahindra e-Verito, Hyundai Kona Electric, Mahindra e2o, Tata Tigor EV 2019, Porsche Taycan, MG ZS, etc. These are just a few when compare to the big automobile industry of India. So, if the Indian government wants people to buy these cars, more and more manufacturers need to make them. Well, it is true that Indians have shown some interest in electric cars over the last few years and this is the reason why Elon Musk's Tesla might be launching in India very soon.

India is still brand new to this technology and that is why it will take some time for Indians to get used to it. Electric cars run on charging. Given below is the list of charging station for electric vehicles in some of the major cities of India:
