The Union Ministry of Road Transport & Highways had made FASTag compulsory for all four-wheelers, including the old four-wheelers sold before December 1, 2017. A press release issued on September 3, 2020, by the government says that the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways has notified with an amendment to the Central Motor Vehicle Rules (CMVR) 1989 about the FASTag.
